15 years ago interior designer and cartoonist Peter Bromhead purchased a 5 year old tired Dakota Penthouse apartment and began his renovation by gutting it entirely. He then went about fitting five Velux sky-lights to ensure the dark areas of the apartment were flooded with light. Bathroom floors were replaced with non-slip Welsh outdoor clay tiles in Ruabon red. The walls recently re-painted over the Scandatex a fibre material which has a hessian style texture in pale soft grey and matching laminate benches, roller blinds, kitchen and bathroom cupboards and built in bedroom drawers. The flooring is a mix of levante heavy duty plush pile carpet in the living area and bedrooms and Swedish maple strip-joined planks in the kitchen and dining alcove. Lighting is concealed spots or Danish Pandul wall lights.

The kitchen, L shaped dining and living areas with Juliette balcony all face the leafy outlook of the Auckland Domain and of course stunning City views at night. The apartment is located on the Western side of the building well away from traffic noise and perfectly positioned for sun and views. Upstairs are the three bedrooms and two bathrooms including a master spacious by any standards and of course large ensuite.

Storage in this apartment is plentiful and the cleverly designed additional built in furniture is a real bonus. New air conditioning units effectively cool the downstairs living area and the master bedroom upstairs where a second unit is located. Additional important features of this Dakota darling are the tennis court which you can see from the apartment, swimming pool, gym (soon to undergo a renovation), one under cover carpark and a secure storage cage in the basement.

The building originally built in the 70s and converted to apartments in the 90s has been confirmed recently by Council as having no significant earth quake risk and is a solidly built iconic Parnell
