Amazingly, Ounuwhao Guest House was originally built in 2 halves in 1884, and another wing was added in 1904. This exceptional residence was transported by barge from Dargaville to Matauwhi Bay, Russell in 1990 and then took 2 years to lovingly restore it to its former glory. Completed in 1992, Ounuwhao Harding House has a history as colourful as its beautiful setting. It stands like a Queen as you come into Russell and now offers 5 beautiful suites to Bed & Breakfast guests. This successful Bed & Breakfast home is the first to greet you as you drive into Russell. There are 5 large suites with bathrooms, guest lounge and dining room. All for the guests, and don't forget the beautiful deck that winds around 2 sides of the home. Then upstairs, still in keeping with the kauri wood throughout, is the owners or managers accommodation. 2 bedrooms, lounge, bathroom and kitchenette, totally private. All tastefully designed to make you believe that you could be back in the 1800's.
