Carefully crafted masterpiece in the seaside paradise of Raglan has proven to be the perfect city escape for a busy family.When the opportunity to build a dream holiday haven came up, Hamilton-based couple Marlene and Simon had a clear vision in mind and quickly set about realising it."We wanted to create a home with a real 'beachy feel' - a simple, modern, uncluttered design which is very different from our very relaxed home back in Hamilton."The site for their new property, which was designed by architect Aaron Haddock and constructed in 2006 by master builder Murray Shaw, was a piece of land previously occupied by a 1970s bach owned by Simon's mother and the end result makes a bold statement!Grand in scale and design, the exterior of this super stylish abode is crafted from cedar and concrete blocks, while inside, honed concrete block walls and clean and simple decor adds to the tranquil vibe.The couple have loved the simplicity of the house, its great flow and all the different outdoor spaces on offer that are perfect for soaking up the summer sun."The ceiling height adds to the airy, spacious feel, yet the house nestles in nicely with its neighbour on its corner section," Marlene adds.
"The house is also a great gallery, with lots of lovely big walls to hang our predominantly Raglan art collection on."
