Design for The Pines was undertaken by the New Zealand offices of HBO+EMTB; an award-winning, multi-disciplinary design house with reach across 14 countries in Asia Pacific and beyond.
HBO+EMTB is the culmination of Hoadley Budget Olphert, a New Zealand firm, expanding into the Australian market through merger with the local practice of Edwards Madigan Torzillo Briggs. Both firms had amassed significant design legacies: HBO had been operating since 1912, and EMTB since 1945. The amalgamated practice of HBO+EMTB was established in 1994. Representing a century of design excellence, HBO+EMTB's history is complemented by a fresh perspective; introducing contemporary approaches and progressive design contributing to the built environment of the world's most dynamic cities.
HBO+ EMTB's design philosophy for The Pines has taken influence from a range of previous projects across Asia Pacific to design an attractive building sympathetic to the unique site and to the neighbourhood; a building that is a positive addition to the thriving Browns Bay area, and takes advantage of the opportunities presented by the site to create a strong new residential offering.
The 5 level development is a mixed use complex, comprising 52 apartments with a combination of one and two bedroom units, and commercial / retail space to street frontage. The design offers style that is both modern and enduring. A minimal but strong palette of natural materials and colours has been selected to create an environment which is familiar and appealing.
The interiors offer both functionality and style; utilizing a combination of carpeted bedrooms with solid flooring in kitchens and
