The gardens. The gardens are full of all sorts of exotic plants, ranging from rare bromeliads to breadfruit trees, from buddleia bushes to fruit trees. Years of effort have gone into making what was a fairly bland, wattle-covered site into a full, lush garden with a distinct sub-tropical flavour.

Nature. As a result of having an incredible garden, we also have incredible wildlife. The property is constantly swarmed by Monarch butterflies and other insects, and there is always a lot of bee activity. The garden is always full of Tuis, Kereru, Grey Warblers, Shining Cuckoos and other songbirds, while the ground is home to many skinks.

Location. Being in Ostend, we are close to the supermarket and other Ostend Village amenities, including the Saturday market. The primary school on Seaview Road is an easy walk for the kids, and the beaches are only a few minutes away.

The vista. The house is about 60m above sea-level and enjoys an elevated vista over the valley below. The primary school and the green belt properties are across the valley, which give the outlook a distinctive pastoral feel.

The sunsets. Given the mainly westerly aspect of the front deck, we enjoy the most stunning sunsets in the evening.
